Version 8.6 of the NI Vision Development Module (Austin, Texas)features several optimized low-level functions that increase processing speeds on any machine. These improvements can range from a small boost in performance to a 10X speed increase.
In addition, engineers with multicore machines can use new reentrant functions in the vision library to achieve even larger speed increases. With these new functions and a parallel programming architecture, engineers can divide processing on one image or process multiple images with the same algorithm simultaneously. Additionally, several of the low-level vision algorithms are now capable of multithreading within the function, meaning engineers can pass one image to one function block and direct it to split over as many cores as they want for processing. By default, these algorithms split over the maximum number of cores available, so just by upgrading their Vision Development Module software, engineers on multicore machines can achieve major speed improvements.
